Republicans are pandering to the waning influence of the Religious Right because they're bleeding voters as the party becomes whiter than snow by the day. Without the exploitation of the Bible and ideological manipulation of Jesus to get the "God's Country" folks in Rural America to vote for them, they wouldn't even exist as a national party.
Yeah, it's laughable how Republicans talk about how evil the government is and how it can never do anything right (then they get elected and prove it), but yet they want the government to be involved in the most private and intimate moments of people's lives. Tell us godless red avatars again how Democrats and liberals are the real threats to liberty and freedom because we want everyone to have health care and be properly educated and not have to live in a country where you have to live in fear of being gunned down because muh Second Amendment.
“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.” - Barry Goldwater. (This is just a (relevant) quote to troll jfern and others who call Hillary the Goldwater Girl.) What a RINO that Barry Goldwater is.
