Uh; No. The South doesn't deserve any respect for me and nor does Southern culture. They've fought every social change tooth and nail and are doing it again. Such medieval views deserve nothing but disrespect.

And flying around the Confederate flag is borderline treasonous in my book.

Because many people refuse to conform to your world view means that they deserve no respect? I probably agree with your views on most social issues, but looking down on others who disagree with that "holier than thou" attitude is pretty disgusting in my book. I can't stand people like that.

And I can't stand people who defend bigots and trash. Southern States are the poorest and have fought every social advancement we've attempted. The South fought women's rights, fought to defend slavery and then fought against african-american rights for decades, and now they're fighting gay rights.

If defending the right of a woman to vote and saying black people shouldn't be slaves makes me holier than thou then holier than thou I am.

The culture of this country is indebted to the South.

Which may explain why we're one of the most backward first world nations.

You are being a bigot right now. All prejudice is stupid. Not liking somebody because where they are from is like not liking somebody because they were born on a Tuesday. It is true that certain places may have certain trends of people but this does not justify any prejudice. If you want to be liberal, then you have to treat everybody you meet like an individual and not attach labels to them. You attack the south for being prejudice but you are doing it yourself. Being from the south means you are from the south, it does not mean you are racist or whatever.

Bigots exist everywhere, no one is denying this, but they exist in a more concentrated fashion in the old Confederacy.

I'm not claiming my state is any better here either, Ohio sucks, but Ohio was not on the forefront of defending slavery and opposing a woman's right to vote.

This is stupid, you people are saying you hat the south because we don't believe like you do. That just makes you a bigot.

If you classify a history of sexism, racism, and homophobia as "beliefs" then I feel sorry for you.

As I said, bigots exist everywhere but more exist in the South than any other region. Any region that had a state that didn't ratify the 19th Amendment until the 80's and another state that voted to keep segregation wording in state law in 2004 deserves no real respect.

Edit: Not to mention other states that proudly fly the Confederate flag.

The confederate flag is part of southern history.

A segment of southern history that features treason and the defense of slavery. Is that something you're proud of?

Also Marokai Blue if you don't like the US, Canada is only a few hours away, move there.

I think the South has more expertise in the "leaving the US" department.

Also if the south is so bad then why are millions of Northerns moving to the south?
Dixie is improving and becoming a better place than it once was. A few posts earlier I admitted I'd be willing to move to say NC or VA.

Oh I certainly think the same. Virginia, Florida, and Missouri I could happily live in.

Dark Red: States I couldn't tolerate living in and have little respect for.
Light Red/Pink: States I could deal with living in and have some respect for.

I hope you know MO isn't part of the South, but MD and DE are part of the south.

MD and DE have never bothered me at all so I haven't included them.
