Expanding oil drilling is pointless to begin with. We get almost nothing from something so potentially dangerous and unclean.

Expanding oil drilling is pointless to begin with. We get almost nothing from something so potentially dangerous and unclean.

Almost nothing.  Like the material almost everything is made of and the fuel of our entire nation.

Quite the jump to go from "expanding oil drilling is pointless" to "I hate everything oil-related and want it all gone" don't you think?

Oil drilling does not go into this nation's coffers, it gets stuck on the international market. Barring some sort of major protectionist policy or nationalization of the oil industry, that will continue, and the idea that our measly efforts at expanding oil drilling will give us exponentially more fuel and reduce prices is asinine and not at all born out by the facts.

In short:

Increased oil drilling has no significant effect on prices whatsoever.

The idea that oil drilling efforts here and off our shores goes directly to us is stupid. It goes directly to the international market.

This issue has some of the biggest myths in American politics, yet we seem to bow to pressure everytime someone says "drill, baby, drill." It's not in any way a solution. Increased drilling will not help us reduce prices or increase energy independence. If some politician tells you otherwise, they are lying.

Honestly, if we could just drill in shallower waters, this problem would've been fixed already - just pointing that out.

Honestly I don't see any reason to believe that's true at all. Mainly because there's something to directly look at to see of that's true. Consider:

The real lesson here is that we're using not just similar remedies for stopping these things that failed way back when; we're using the exact same kind of tactics entirely. We have no solid tactic that stops these things, but we're drilling deeper and deeper. If we couldn't stop a leak in an alarmingly similar incident only 160 feet underwater with identical efforts, I have absolutely no reason to believe that shallow water is somehow this huge help.
