If only things were so simple for Romney. His problem is while he is vilifying them to his rich donors, Romney is reliant on the votes of low information low education white working class voters who fall into his 47% who arent paying income tax.

So is he going to tell these voters  its time to lose their deductions and start paying more in taxes so the rest can get a tax cut?

How much of the rural vote will Romney get? And we all know those areas are full of people sucking of the government teat, only with things the Republicans like such as farm aid and military spending. Wouldn't be surprised if food stamp usage was pretty damn high in these areas as well. On the other hand, Romney will get his ass handed to him in the Bay Area which has a median income of more than 75K.

That is of course the supreme irony of modern politics. The liberal socialist blue states are actually subsidizing most of the freedom loving red states, in terms of federal tax dollars in and out.

Mitt doesn't understand the first rule of scapegoating...you scapegoat a very small group, none of which you expect to vote for you. Examples: the poor, blacks, gays, Mexicans...or for Democrats it can be the rich.

You dont call half of America irresponsible moochers with a victim complex.

a big chunk the "dependent" people in this 47% are retirees, who are the core of Romney's base. Is he now committing to taxing their SS benefits? That will go over well in FL.

The best case scenario for Romney on this is that he has lost yet another weekly news cycle where he again is on the defensive, and he is running out of weeks where he can turn things around.  But this could be a kind of "Macacca" moment for him where it just confirms the worst stereotype and he can never recover.

Clearly when you look at the details Romney's conflating of the 47% of non-income tax payers and 47% of base Obama voters is absurd. Obviously within the 47 are many Romney voters as today's Gallup poll on vote by income shows.   However, if you arent paying attention to the details you may not realize how Romney just accused you of being a lazy moocher who cant take responsibility. That is because when people hear Romney talk about 'victims' they assume he isn't talking about them, even if they are in the 47% of non-income tax payers. The working class whites and/or retired seniors probably agree with him that there are a bunch of  lazy layabouts sucking off the gov't teet who vote for Obama and thank god Mitt Romney is taking a stand against them. The fact that they are sucking off that same teet doesn't really occur to them.

this bit from David Frum picks up on my point and has some scary actual data to back it up...

For those who don't know, blacks and Hispanics are about 12.5% of population each.
