I think it was because England lost or drew (I am not quite sure) to Greece and they missed out. Then didn't Steve McClaren step down as England's manager and now some Italian guy is the newbie.

That Italian guy is Fabio Capello. He just resigned from Real Madrid because they didn't win the grand prize: the Champions League. He coached Roma, Juventus and I'm not sure if I'm missing a team in there. He was an idol in Italy with Juventus. Capello is certainly going to bring in new change to England, if they're able to follow him. Who knows, we might see England as a serious World Cup contender for 2010 if they get their act together. Good luck England!
