Because the 2020 election had more to do with race while the 2016 election had more to do with gender. Also, think of the stereotypical third party voter . . . they're a white guy. And these voters from 2016 Biden won decisively in 2020.

And no, the GOP is not maxed out on white men. I think there's an upper ceiling of 70% of the white vote in general, looking 20 years into the future.
