Frankly, you are the one who needs to grow up. Your entire persona on this website is fetishizing 2012 Republicans, yet here you are caping for a court that is one case away from overturning Lawrence, let alone Roe. At long last, have you abandoned any principled opposition to undue government intrusion into private life, any devotion to the separation of church and state that made this country great?

Mitt Romney ran on overturning Roe

Again, couched in theocracy.

What does that make you?

I’m not even a Christian

Being beholden to the arbitrary culture war lines of the Christian right without even being a Christian is perhaps one of the largest Ls I have ever witnessed in terms of political ideology.

It's been amazing watching online right wing hacks flail about in real time and settle on pearl clutching about leaks infringing on the sanctity of the court. Ell Em Ay Oh. Please lecture me more on preserving the court's nonpartisan image, McConnellite scumbags.

From a political standpoint, I'd wait until after the midterm elections to pass statewide bans beyond super safe R states so that the abortion issue won't be front and center in the fall. The SCOTUS decision in June will cause some backlash and mass protests, but I expected this to fade within weeks as we live in a 24-hour newscycle and inflation remains a big issue.

This would be a double-edged sword; there might be significant blowback from the base if Republican leaders are seen as sitting on their hands regarding what people believe to be an ongoing baby Holocaust.

This is a 30 page thread where maybe 5% of the posts actually reference the issue at hand.

The justices of the supreme court were tasked not with giving their opinion on abortion, not with trying one way or another with influence abortion policy in this country.

They were tasked with answering one question: does the united states constitution as it is currently written provide for a right to an abortion?

Unfortunately due to the unconstitutional power grab known as “Marbury v Madison”, the opinion of the Supreme Court justices actually does influence abortion policy in this country. If they were so worried about being found improperly opinionated or “legislating from the bench”, well, that bridge has been crossed centuries ago. The only honorable thing these “justices” could do to save face is resign in grace and call for the speedy dissolution of the institution.

You know the court ruling was then saying : “ We are going to get out of the business of making abortion policy “

If you pull some random dude off the street and ask them about the Supreme Court, the modal person will probably know like three things: the judges are basically Republicans or Democrats even though they're technically not, the Republicans have the court right now, and they get to issue binding opinions on law. As such, my inclination is to believe that when SCOTUS strikes down Roe and abortion immediately becomes illegal either in their state or in states they know of, they will basically understand what happened.

THIS DOESN'T HELP, PLEASE SHUT THE F[INKS] UP WITH THIS TYPE OF LANGUAGE AT A TIME LIKE THIS

Sometimes, when discourse around this stuff gets particularly bad, I like to ask my very normie liberal girlfriend her opinion just so I can hear her say "I think it's nice to try and be inclusive since lots of people can get pregnant and they have rights too" even though I already know that's what she's going to say. I regret having eaten from the tree of knowledge, I want to return to ignorant bliss

I swear this site has a obnoxious pocket of posters with a deeply unhealthy distain for trans people.

did you mean Republicans

I agree, this site does have an unhealthy disdain for Republicans.
Dude you had a red avatar on January 6 in protest of Trump and what was happening. And now that party has decided what happened then is totally fine and all those arrested and charged are unjustly held political prisoners.

The Dems are literally creating a ministry of truth

You really need to log off and regain some perspective dude the endless hysteria is so annoying

Great. Now, abortion should be banned federally from the moment of conception with exception only for the life of the mother.
Can you explain to me why you are not for exceptions in the case of rape?

I'd argue that pro-lifers who support rape exceptions are logically inconsistent.  If you think that an unborn baby is a life of equal value to that of the mother, the circumstances in which he or she was conceived do not matter.

I can see a sort of soft version of my bodily autonomy belief holding that the a woman gives up her bodily autonomy if she engages in consensual sex in a way that she does not if the sex is not consensual. Just because a fetus is a person does not necessarily imply that it has an absolute right to life.

Anyone who supports this ruling must now adopt all the babies which result from unwanted pregnancies.

Own the decision with the same vigor you have in praising it.
Everybody who supports immigration must now house all the foreigners which result from unwanted border crossings and visa overstays.

Own the policy with the same vigor you have in supporting it.

Scientists have recently discovered that, unlike immigrants, infants are actually incapable of finding jobs and therefore need to be supported by someone. This is due to the fact that they are extremely small and are frequently unable to walk or speak intelligibly. The more you know!

Like the elderly. Or some people with disabilities. How far down that road do you want to go.

...what? My point is that immigrants don't need housing lol, they just need economic opportunity. Infants, however, do need parents.

As most Europeans, I'm for < 3 Month abortions.

However, I do think people are overreacting (talking about the "I need to take a day off, and the "shaking rn" crowd). All this says is that abortion isn't constitutionally protected. Most states will continue to allow it.

lol at the bolded

I actually do think that Manchin knew that the nominees were lying about Roe being settled law. It was painfully obvious he would've spiked Kavanaugh if he could have even though he was up for reelection. You have to hand it to him, he is his own dude with his own beliefs; he genuinely believes in his whole moderate shtick, but he's also a Democrat for a reason.

I neither know nor care if Murkowski or Collins knew that Gorsuch and Barrett/Kavanaugh respectively were lying.

Where's our evangelical posters to defend this Ohio garbage? Oh wait. They must be protesting in support of universal healthcare and free school lunch the pro-lifers they are.

I'd say that what someone did to the girl is awful and indefensible.  With that said, taking an innocent life will not right the wrong of what was done.  That baby didn't do anything wrong; how they were conceived was not their fault.  Killing him or her would be like killing an innocent bystander to a crime.

So you support a child being forced to bear a child.

I think that's the greater evil.

The difference is that you don't believe that abortion is literally murder.  If you do believe that it's literally murder (like I do), then actively killing someone is the far worse action.

This is a perfectly respectable view, but it necessarily derives from religion, as you admit yourself, and therefore cannot and should not be enforced by the state. There was a time not so long ago when even religious people would acknowledge this; instead of working to install theocrats on the Supreme Court, they would work to convince their fellow citizens to join their religion and share their views on what is right and what is wrong, in the hopes that these new converts would voluntarily join them. Sadly, within my lifetime this has completely reversed; the number of theocrats in our government is spiking even as the churches they belong to plummet farther and farther in terms of membership. Our country is worse for it, since our separation between church and state is being pushed to the absolute breaking point, and your religion is worse for it, too. Before long, you'll have turned a secular nation with a strong Christian tradition into a Christian nation with fewer Christians than ever.
