Obama is a bad fit for Appalachia; Bill was a good candidate, which is why he won.
Nah, there are much better. Mondale was probably a better fit than Clinton, besides the fact he didn't have a southern accent and everything went perfectly for Reagan. Sure he was quirky but the type of Democrat that would do best in Appalachia would probably be a union, working class type from West Virginia or Kentucky.

Clinton was still good but only because of his accent. If he was from Iowa, he wouldn't near as good in the south.

tom harkin would do well in appalachia, central appalachia in particular.
No sh!t, that's because he was a super working class Democrat and actually sticks up for unions. Clinton did nothing for them really, and I was talking about him in particular. He has an economic policy not far from Tsongas really.

Yes, and if said Democrat were from central Appalachia, I'm sure he'd win it.

This is Obama.  He will not win central Appalachia no matter how much he "should".

there was a candidate named clinton who won central appalachia.  ;ast i checked, he isnt from there.

gore either won it, or came very close to winning it.

hell even dukakis did relatively well there.

and please dont play the race card, which seems to be the default excuse of the obama supporters.

If the shoe fits...

Obama is likely to do worse than the average Democrat in Appalachia, and yes, it is due to race.  Take a look at how well Harold Ford did in eastern Tennessee, for an example.

what democrat does do well in east tennessee?  that goes back to civil war.

Yeah...
