Orange County, North Carolina? I dunno about poor but it's definitely white...

That might be it, even minus the college students. Doesn't nclib live there?

Very liberal even without the college kids, but its not poor either, especially once you look at incomes outside of college students.

Income here is slightly above the national average, though there certainly are poor areas and a sizeable number of socially liberal white poors.

Regarding Vermont, by 2007 data, 9 of its 14 counties were below the national average in median household income, with 4 (Essex, Orleans, Rutland, and Windham) considerably so.
