Congress should have resolved this issue years ago.

I am surprised that in the 50 years period between Roe and this case, no national law on abortion was passed. There have been multiple trifectas in that time, and you'd think that somebody would have made a move at some point.

Democrats were fine with the status quo and Republicans could use it as a campaign machine.

Yes, presumably a majority of Democrats (myself included) didn’t see this day actually coming.

The conservative court’s whole approach to the 14th Amendment is terrifying — no matter how much this opinion says “this is only a ruling on abortion” (bad enough), it’s hard to actually believe that.

Regardless of what the final decision is, I can't see this as the opinion. It's far too nakedly political for anyone but Alito or Thomas to sign off on.

Could someone elucidate for me how Gorsuch would sign off on this opinion? It doesn't square with my understanding of his approach to the 14th Amendment.

In general I believe that this forum is way too male to actually discuss abortion in any meaningful manner, but alas.

So was the protest I went to last night, which is why I assume the “end U.S. imperialism now!” chant became the topic of conversation.
