Congratulations on your re-election, Governor Bel Edwards!

Going to be pedantic for a second here, just to head off any further instances in this thread: the governor's given name is "John Bel"; his last name is "Edwards."

Thanks!  I wondered if he chose to use his full name because his fellow Southerner John Edwards' scandals were still somewhat fresh in the national political memory, and he didn't want some voters to stupidly mix them up together.

As far as I can tell, he's always used it. It's not totally uncommon in Louisiana. Many of my dad's relatives go by their first and middle names.

Anyone have any parish benchmarks to look for in a close race?

DailyKos has three sets of benchmarks, based on different models, here.

Any idea how long until the first precinct reports?

Probably between a half-hour and an hour.

Just heard on WWL that JBE is getting *99%* of the African-American vote statewide, which is, uh, troubling for Rispone.

Hallelujah! A great night in my state — not only for JBE but because of the victories in the House races. Very, very happy tonight.

I don't really care JBE won anyway. He's a DINO.

He just gave a shout out to “social justice” on stage, so...

How many seats did Dems pickup in the LA statehouse?

Just one, but they held another. Enough to prevent the supermajority.

I see only 2 GOP pickups in the Senate.

Anyway, if these numbers are accurate, then Republicans could overturn JBE's veto simply by winning over the two indies and one single Democrat. To specialists of LA local politics, what are the chances of that happening?

Depends on the bill — for a social issue like abortion (hypothetically, of course, since Edwards is pro-life), probably wouldn’t be too tough. For something like cutting TOPS or redistricting? Never gonna happen.
