There's a statewide race here in Massachusetts that's looking increasingly likely to go Republican. It's not the governorship, but the open-seat race for State Auditor.
It was looking like something of a generic R vs. generic D race a few months ago, until the Democratic candidate's campaign started falling apart at the seams. The first problem was a revealation that Dem-nominee Suzanne Bump was improperly claiming two different houses as her primary residence, taking tax breaks on both. Then, the
Boston Globe reported that Bump's campaign was worst in the state in terms of reporting required donor information -- perhaps something you'd expect an auditor to be up on. Her troubles, combined with the resume of her opponent, CPA Mary Z. Connaughton, led to (literally) every newspaper in the state endorsing the Republican.
But, of course, you didn't click this thread to read about bad auditing practices. You clicked to find out the connection between Suzanne Bump and Satanic murders!
