I was not aware that all official governmental forms included options for one's ethnicity. Frankly I was *this* close to using my PPT powers of rejecting a frivolous bill outright, but decided not to.

Motion to table.

Perhaps so. Most of the time we've tabled it. Tongue

The attempt to table has failed.

Vote count:

Aye 3 (Lewis, Sensei, Bacon)
Bay 4 (Torie, Dwtl, PiT, Happy)
did not vote 3 (Andrew, Jas, Al)

Amendment to replace the entire bill with a new text that reads:

"The federal government shall not be permitted to ask any citizen for their race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation on any official government form."

I would support such an amendment as friendly and if that were to come about then it would also need a new title.

Senators have 24 hours to object.

Senators haven't been using such time.

I have another friendly amendment to change the title:

"Race Should Not Matter, and the Fact that it Does Shouldn't Matter Either Act".

You are, like, you know, aware that you're not ruling out sillee things like checking down race on police reports or birth certificates (issued by regions anyhow) but rather on the Census? Also trying to outlaw AA again through the backdoor?

Thank you for listening.

As the amendment wasn't accepted as friendly, the vote is now on the amendment. Please vote aye, nay or abstain.

Aye.

Nay

Why didn't you just move for cloture?
Slow voting the last three days. I don't want this thing on my floor for any longer than is absolutely necessary. It looks like something the cat drug in.

Cloture has failed. As there has been no debate whatsoever, though, we're moving to a final vote anyways.

Nay.

That strikes me as a rather intemperate comment on the Senate floor. Perhaps the esteemed Senator would wish to take back his words? Tongue
Perhaps. If some esteemed Senators would take back their votes first. Tongue
