You're not really missing anything. It's already obvious from the CD map that Edwards won in SE Wisconsin outside Milwaukee, ie in the Rep. part. That just gets confirmed in the county map.

In Virginia, he did best in parts of the ninth district, right? Since when is that a Rep area? In Tennessee too, he did best in the central part of the state, ie the area where there still are rural white Democrats.
But elsewhere, it's true.
