Germans in Nova Scotia? Weird. Would they be immigrants from pre-confederation?

Yes. When the Brits took over Nova Scotia, they wanted to fill it up with people loyal to the crown (ie.. Protestants) and weren't too choosy about where they came from. They let a bunch of Germans settle on the South Shore, mostly around Lunenburg.

How much culture do they hang on to though?

They have Lutheran churches and the local accent is a bit different, but thats about it.
And they called the town Lunenburg? I guess they were Hanoverians, and thus British subjects already?

Name changes, anyone?

Halifax Needham should be Halifax North?
Halifax Chebucto should be Halifax West (maybe confusing since it's not in the federal riding of Halifax West?)

North End and West End. Clarifying that we're referring to position on the peninsula.

That sounds a pretty silly objection... these are the neighborhoods' names.

So they name ridings in NS after people too? Sad
They don't (Needham is a park). Their Commission appears to have tried, though.

Chebucto is also the name of the peninsula Halifax is situated on (not Halifax Peninsula, which is identical to the historical city, but the larger one of which that is a part. Which makes the use as a riding name for part of the old town a bit confusing. Especially since there was a Chebucto Peninsula community council from 1996 to 2012...)

The former city of Halifax contains more than just the peninsula, it contained some of the 'mainland' if you will.
Yes, from the 60s. But that's broadly the Fairview and Clayton Park ridings. (Looking at the wiki article, and the "old" constituencies, here.) And the Chebucto Peninsula community council covered areas outside of that, and was in the Halifax Atlantic riding.

Truly, if the pollsters blow this one (I highly doubt they will) or even if the Liberals win but by a small margin, the pollsters should be disbanded and their managers sent into exile.

Just in order to collect crazyness accolades in case a crazy result happens.

Which is nowhere near as unlikely as it should be. Grin

BTW, fun fact: The best bellwether in the province is Eastern Shore. Voted for the winner since 1970. I have it going Tory though!
