HAMELN. The Landrat (chief executive) of Hameln-Pyrmont district was assassinated this morning by a 74 year old long in legal trouble over his continued possession of guns despite having lost his license due to his criminal record ages ago (although we don't know that this was also the motive). The killer then also shot himself.

Yeah. By a stray bullet. This guy fired at these things only. (Envy because they're longer than his own truck? Anger after the driver of one almost killed him by reckless driving and was never caught? A mix of the two?)

And because a car is a higher life form than a human, they offered a completely unprecedented reward (20 times what they offer in a rather gruesome double murder here in Frankfurt just before christmas) and used constitutionally highly dubious novel methods, literally recording the movements of millions of cars to find one that was near a lot of shootings. Of course they were salivating over the prospect that it might be some radical leftist. A lot of the BKA hopes for the reemergence of far-left terrorism; getting such people is what they originally joined up for.
