It's rather sad that this is even noticable.

The reactions would be... ahem... less positive if he were a black man and his wife were a white woman. You will notice that when interracial couples are shown in a positive light, the man is always white and the woman black.

Or the man is black and the woman is basically white but has just barely visible traces of African ancestry.
