Is there any state that has as many dynasties as Missouri? Blunt, Carnahan, Ashcroft… although maybe it’s just those three.

Not so much nowadays but Massachusetts was the OG dynasty state. Cabot, Lodge, Kennedy, Fitzgerald, Adams, Chaffee (moved to Rhode Island), Weld, Quincy, Choate ….

The loss of the supermajority in the State House is a gigantic embarrassment that will have real consequences for redistricting. As for Eigel, I remember him storming down the halls of the legislature at the end of session 2018 screaming about his bill getting killed (his fellow Republicans killed it because no one liked him). Since then he has been a thorn in the side of the Majority in the Senate, a notoriously dysfunctional body in the best of times. Four of six the members of the "Conservative Caucus" are sad losers that no one can standm hard to believe Denny Hoskins puts up with the rest of them but I suppose they have their uses.

It sounds a bit harsh that they'd kill a bill not because of its policies but because of a dislike of the author.

This ain’t unique, South Carolina has about the same guy. Our Eigel is Rep. Jon Hill

From what I understand the initial map was a sort of least change, but a lot of suburban republicans threw a fit that MO-2 and MO-5 (Kansas City) wasn’t made republican strongholds so as a compromise they shored up MO-2 (St. Louis Suburbs) which arguably didn’t change too much? There were also some rallies trying to get the legislator to gerrymander MO-5 to be a republican seat

Supposedly the compromise. Wagner gonna be mad.

It appears there might be a deal at hand for the congressional map:

Apparently with Jefferson County in the 8th?
What broke the impasse?

Time. Filing deadline's next week and if there wasn't a map then good chance of court intervention by necessity and all the GOP plans get spoiled.

Imagine if the courts made a least change map that ends up 3-5

Lol this all has been a fascinating crash course of Missouri’s idiosyncratic pastoralist politics

This is so embarrassing. It's like herding cats. Dems never have this amount of dysfunction when they want to draw a favorable map. They do it and agree on it within days.

Looking at you Illinois

What an own-goal in the making.
I don't think anyone would have guessed things would be this dysfunctional.

Literally if I had to rank how likely each state would be last Missouri would have been in the bottom 10

So what happened here, the hardliners caved?

6-2 map it is?

It was weird cause you had some people wanting Wagner’s seat to be made very safe, some wanting to keep it about the same, but also to the north and south you had people not wanting to be in certain districts for whatever reason

So yea it wasn’t just an issue between hardliners and moderates
