Not everything is about electoral votes. Alaska is huge; if the Dems capture it then they have captured the biggest state in the nation.
You need to be less subtle when you're joking. I almost thought your rationale was in earnest. 
Every state is important. Obama doing well in Alaska makes it easier to beat Stevens and Young, and if he does pull off the upset, then it's an extra three electoral votes.
