I'm pretty sure Lief has always supported capital punishment, actually.

Yes. I support capital punishment in the abstract. At least in the United States, the system is very inequitable and racially biased, so I don't actually support it in practice. But in a hypothetical fairer system, I would have no problem with executing people for the most heinous offenses.
