Wow, I thought the countries of Western Europe were friends and allies of the United States. Suddenly helping us catch a fugitive guilty of espionage is some act of supreme cowardice and spinelessness?? Ridiculous. I would hope and expect the United States to do the same if a German or Austrian or Italian or whatever criminal on the run was possibly flying through American airspace.

Austria is a neutral country and the amount of attention being paid to Snowden is ridiculous even one does assume he did something wrong, Lief.

Yeah, and we're not asking them to go to war with anyone. Just because they're "neutral" (not really) doesn't mean they're isolationist. We still have an extradition treaty with them, we still cooperate and are friendly with them.

You mean, like the NSA guys who bugged the Italian, Spanish and Greek embassies? Yeah, such United states help would be a great sign of cooperating with its allies ..

All countries spy on each other, even allies. The United States would (or should at least) still help them catch a high-profile criminal if he were in the country.

Not to the point of grounding a head of state's plane over a suspicion without evidence regarding a victimless if irritating crime, I should hope.

Well, yeah, that's obviously ridiculous. But I've read plenty of people (not necessarily all on this website) calling Germany or other European countries spineless lapdogs because they're refusing to grant a criminal asylum and helping the United States catch him.

Times like this make me wish Chavez were still alive. He would have loved this. Sad
