A poll I saw shows that the Fine Gael is falling back...

So FF will probably win the plurality but FG-LAB-GRN can form a coalition to govern?

No, according to the Irish Times, where I'm following the counts, the current tally for 150/166 TDs called is:

FF 72
FG 46
LAB 18
OTH 5
GP 5
SF 3
PD 1

Nice to see McDowell pulling off a April 21, 2002 L. Jopsin stunt.

I agree with you that I can't see any apparent difference between FF and FG, but such a coalition would be like a UMP-PS coalition in France. See what I mean?

If I may ask Jas, who/which party did you vote for?

Feel free to not answer if you feel I'm asking too much.

11 appointed seats? Please. That's what makes this Senate, and other legislatures worldwide seem lousy and retarded in my eyes.

Your Senate reminds me of the French Senate, which is basically a club for retired rightist politicians or failed rightist politicians, with some failed leftists too.

Reminds me of when Rachida Dati presented a program to the Senate- around 80% of Senators weren't even there and the President of the Senate didn't remember her name.

I really doubt (read: hope) that Callely can get his seat back without redistricting or a retiree; Dublin North Central generally has a strong FF block and a strong Leftish block. But with Richard Bruton being there.. it's almost impossible to see it as anything other than 1FF 1FG 1OTH. And Callely did better than expected there last time.

The rumour mill has been suggesting that Seamus Brennan may retire, don't know much about that. We can only hope.

But God, Eoghan Harris was really put a crimp in my day.

What's so bad about Eoghan Harris. Enlighten me!

I only trust the Greens get a well-deserved drubbing at the next general election. FF doesn't seem to be the natural coalition partner for progressives (and no I'm not including the PD's in that category)

Along with SF, the PDs would be well down my preference vote

Dave

I hope so. It's sad, but after joining an FF coalition, they must suffer the same fate as the French greens. Smiley
