Gerrymandering is deeply corrosive to democracy. However, if one party does it, the other party has little choice but to follow suit, creating a tragedy of the Commons. It would be best if the courts just nixed it, similar to how they did for unequal population districts in the 1960s, but our current judiciary does not care about healthy democracy.
