I think that Florida will remain a battleground and Texas will become more competitive as the children of South American immigrants become more politically active. Actually this is likely for the entire Southwest/Mountain West. New Mexico has been decided by less than a percentage point in the past two elections. Kerry made a 2 point gain in Nevada and a 5 point gain in Colorado (both states that voted Clinton in '92, Nevada again in '96) over Gore's vote %. Arizona reamained stagnant for 2000 to 2004 but I think it could be a lot more competitive given a Democratic candidate that isn't from the Northeast.
Also, if the 2006 election is any indication, Virginia is stepping into the arena as a top teir battleground. If the fast growing Georgia and North Carolina follow suit we could see the Democrats return to the South after a 70 year hiatus.
