It played very well with Republicans, and we'll likely see it playing well with independents and swing voters.

Why, and how would we know? The speech was clearly a base-rallying one that bashed Democrats. It could "play well with swing voters," but I don't see the mechanism how this happens.

If it were based on race alone, then, yes, it would be.  But the Democratic presidential candidate routinely receives 90+% of the black vote, even when that candidate has been white.
