This is all very good, but perhaps these Turkish teachers should be a bit more concerned with what happens in their own country: namely, the rise of exactly the same kind of radical Islam as in Pakistan.

The Turkish Islamists scare me far less than the Turkish secularists, to tell the truth.

Aye. But depends on which Islamists and which Secularists you are talking about here. I don't really see the AKP as Islamist (unless you want to have that word to have so many contradictory meanings as to be meaningless other to indicate "muslim"), perhaps "Islamic Democracy" would be better.
