There were spoils to be had post-war. With pressure from former Ambassador Kennedy, Northern Ireland was annexed by the Republic of Ireland (with a few military concessions to the USA) England was occupied but remained intact but it was the 'Celtic' nations which fell victim to effect of Stalin's pen.

I really can't see this happening without another war. Either the NI government uses this situation if possible (though in all probability there would be no effective NI govt in this situation. The demographics of any NI resistance would be interesting... this would all make the situation probably worse) to declare itself officially independent and strengthens its legal structure towards a fully bloated apartheid system - or worse, mass departation. Or seizing his opportunity De Valera invades whatever is left of the NI state leading to a civil war and rounds of violence and etc. Or both Of course in this I am also wrongly assuming that neutral Ireland would remain neutral and independant in the case of Operation Sealion being a success.. which is unlikely. Aahh, too many what-ifs.
