Andrew Yang: I'm not connected to the city machines, hopeful, optimistic, big change
Scott Stringer: I've been here a while, seen the issues, lost my mom to COVID. NY is resilient and tough, and I know the issues.
Kathryn Garcia: I'm the crisis manager, I delivered meals, plowed the streets, pumped the water during Sandy. Make NYC livable for everyone. Oh by the way I was endorsed by the New York Times.
Eric Adams: We're in a crisis, I've been here in New York forever, I've been struggling and fighting for our city at every level.
Maya Wiley: "I am Maya Wiley." I'm a civil rights advocate, time to challenge inequality, make things better. End police violence, I'm a mom, won't accept ongoing police violence. First Mom Mayor.

They're discussing crime, and Dianne tried to pivot away from her disastrous NYT answer on crime, saying she acknowledges the issues with crime but wants to move away from the policing approach.

Also just saying, “Show of hands” gimmicks in debates are beyond idiotic

Adams really is terrible. What a non answer on his preference of Giuliani to Dinkins. Giuliani, an insane narcissist, Dinkins, a dedicated public servant.

He started by laughing off the question and tried to spin it on Wiley.

I liked Wiley, she took on Adams the most and was effective, but I still think she's an out of touch pundit. Stringer would be so great if he wasn't so compromised. As for Garcia, the good is just accompanied by a lot of bad. Morales remains completely unqualified and unprepared and terminally online.

I would contest that point a bit generally, but i do see where you're coming from.
HOWEVER, it has been very politically advantageous for Dianne to be the only one in the race to have that position. Got her to 10%  matching funds, and a gang of delusional supporters (not a dig, sometimes delusions are necessary to win campaigns).

The debate didn't make me want to vote for any of them. As a city worker, it never felt like they were speaking to me. Felt like they were speaking to the journalists who'll summarize the debate later.

You're right, especially given she came from political obscurity. Creating a loyal base of supporters was the right move to give her any chance at spreading her message. Not that it'll give her any chance to win.

Not surprising. A lot of people are speaking highly of her behind the scenes.

Well I know city workers are big fans of her, but that doesn't always manifest in the electorate. I'd say it is incredibly surprising, giving this represents her support over tripling within a week. But if this poll is true must all do our part and rank her somewhere.

Honestly shocking that Stringer is still doing well even after all the scandals.

His durability in the polls suggests to me that had these allegations not existed he would be leading against Yang. He almost certainly would have gotten the NYT endorsement too

Pre-scandal, I had growing confidence (and at the time, happiness) that Stringer was going to pass Yang. And yes, he would have absolutely gotten the NYT endorsement.
