It's absolutely despicable that Trump is going to reopen the economy, just so he can brag about it in November, and allow millions more to die.

Of course, what else should I have expected?

If the Democrats don't use their leverage to make sure universal vote-by-mail is in the next stimulus package, then the 2020 elections cannot be held.

It looks like there will be no vote-by-mail in the coming elections, meaning that the results will be illegitimate.

It's April. There's still a ton of time and a ton of bills left.

Setting up a national vote-by-mail system takes time, though. And the Democrats are showing no sign of realizing this.

It looks like the Democrats got played again on stimulus funding. This is why we lose elections.

Not sure. The virus is mutating.

I'm really hoping that I can go skiing again next winter. This appears unlikely now, sadly.

I know most people on this forum come from households earning millions a year but...

What on Earth gives you that impression?

I'm wondering this too.

So it appears that being infected with COVID-19 does not confer immunity from getting infected again. This means that we'll never be free of it.

If the task force is disbanded, I don't think we'll ever be free of this pandemic. Not until we have a vaccine, which might never happen; we've never created a vaccine for a coronavirus.

We would have to learn to live with it, although I think it's impractical to expect social distancing, masks, and all the rest to continue indefinitely. Our society eventually acclimatized itself to HIV/AIDS, to give an example of what the path forward might look like if there is no vaccine.

Well, social distancing is already fraying. But I really think we need a Wuhan-style lockdown until there's a vaccine.

As long as Trump is in the White House, this virus will not be contained. Trump will make sure of it; it helps his re-election due to Biden supporters being too scared to vote in person. That's why he's dismantling the Postal Service; he knows universal VBM would hurt him.

This virus shows up at the perfect time to get Trump re-elected.

Explain?  This seems counterintuitive.  He can still win, but his path clearly seems harder now.

People will be too scared to vote in person, and mail-in voting is not going to be expanded.

Over 1,000 people in my county have died. I'm really hoping I'm not going to be one of them.

The Coronavirus Is Deadliest Where Democrats Live
Quote
Democrats are far more likely to live in counties where the virus has ravaged the community, while Republicans are more likely to live in counties that have been relatively unscathed by the illness, though they are paying an economic price. Counties won by President Trump in 2016 have reported just 27 percent of the virus infections and 21 percent of the deaths — even though 45 percent of Americans live in these communities, a New York Times analysis has found.

The very real difference in death rates has helped fuel deep disagreement over the dangers of the pandemic and how the country should proceed. Right-wing media, which moved swiftly from downplaying the severity of the crisis to calling it a Democratic plot to bring down the president, has exacerbated the rift. And even as the nation’s top medical experts note the danger of easing restrictions, communities across the country are doing so, creating a patchwork of regulations, often along ideological lines.

This is why the virus helps the Republicans overall.
