I find that pretty hard to believe. Either Swallow is her middle name, in which case she could easily go by Karen S. Prior or Karen Prior, or she intentionally chose that name after marriage.

That, or her parents were some real sadists.

Are you seriously unfamiliar with why women would want to keep their maiden name in their usual authorship while also adopting their husband’s?

The original point was that she didn't choose it. If she chose it, that absolutely makes her fair game.
