Why is it that a virus that trump has no control over could hurt him? It’s not like he caused the virus to occur

Obama got killed on Ebola in 2014 and this looks like it could be worse.

That wasn’t fair either

I get politics is polierrizng and people like to talk sh**t on the other side but it really sucks that we live in a society that people blame the president of the United States if a virus breaks out across the world

Okay, I have serious doubts that we beat Trump in the end, but COVID-19 is becoming more and more of a disaster for him. If we lose, it'll be in spite of his cartoonishly craptastic response to the virus.

Why is it a disaster for him? He didn’t start it

That didn't stop voters on Super Tuesday.

Anyway, we don't even know if this pandemic will still be relevant by November. Regardless, it should still be used against Trump as an example of how incompetent his administration is.

How has his administration been incompetent?
Seriously, what the hell are you supposed to do when something like this is spreading all over the world?!
Wave a wand and somehow create a vaccine out of thin air?

You don't downplay and lie about the pandemic for one thing! Also the administration dragged their feet in containing it. And finally, regardless of how much it is or isn't actually Trump's fault, he will be blamed for the DOW plummeting considering that he always takes credit when it's in good shape. That's the danger of tying yourself to the economy-a concept that is more beyond a President's control than it is often portrayed.

Well saying he’d be unfairly tied to the DOW dropping is different than saying his administration is incompetent.
Also the downplaying it is trying to calm people the  down.
People are overly freaking out. It’s one thing to ignore it, but another to freak people out. The news isn’t helping and people are treating it like the Black Plague

Don't cripple the agencies responsible for preparedness ahead of time.

Respond quickly when the first threat became apparent, rather than wasting weeks hoping it would blow over

Don't minimize the potential threat or current spread.

Don't spread disinformation like "in a couple of months it will all be over".

In general, don't put the President's political interests ahead of the nation's interests.

...etc...

No one thought it would blow up the way it did, no one!

He’s not trying to minimize the threat, but rather trying to calm
People down.
People are overly freaking out. There’s no reason for people to be stocking up on water and toilet paper like it’s the end of the world. This isn’t a joke, but the news seriously is freaking people out

Literally just read the second sentence of his comment.
His response has been fine hater

He's constantly lying and downplaying it, and his cuts to the CDC earlier will result in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of deaths that could have been avoided.

Well downplaying it and trying to calm people down is better than freaking people out like some news outlets have done

This is not the case.  If you are actually open to more details about the early response and how critical time was lost, https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/07/us/politics/trump-coronavirus.html is a good starting point.

Well if anyone is to blame it should be the Chinese government not Trump.

Why aren’t we blaming them?
