What % of your meals contain meat?

Around 60%.  I hardly ever have meat with breakfast since I just have toast or cereal.  With lunch I have meat about 75% of the time and with dinner, nearly every day.

What is southern breakfast anyway?

I think breakfast here is pretty typical for the U.S... other than you're probably more likely to find maple syrup with it than elsewhere.

I think a common "big breakfast" here is:

Eggs of some kind (over easy or scrambled, usually)
bacon or sausage
hash browns
pancakes

Then you kind of pour a lot of maple syrup on the pancakes and let it run into the sausage or bacon.

The Sugar Maple is an amazing tree.

Occasionally oatmeal, fresh fruit, or toast with jam is served.  Berries are especially popular in summer since they grow abundantly in the wild here.

You never see grits here.  Is that like Malt-o-meal?  I like malt-o-meal, but only with impossible amounts of butter, milk, and brown sugar.

Blech.. I can't stand Cream of Wheat.  Malt-o-meal and Oatmeal are fairly common here... but I think Red River cereal would be a little more regional


It looks like birdseed... it's best with lots of butter, milk, and brown sugar.
