Apparently you haven't read carefully my post. I don't disagree that Santorum doesn't hate gays personally. But he had no compunction in using them as boogeymen in order to rally his base of religious fanatics.

This is like an argument I had on a different thread on wheter George Wallace was really a racist or he just used racism to promote his political career.

Marriage is a big issue for Santorum but he really didn't discuss the issue for a long time. If he was just saying it to rally religious fanatics, he would have kept it up in 2006. Instead, he hardly ever talked about it.

He was too busy trying to dismantle the National Weather Service at the behest of his donors at Accuweather.

What?  That he tried to dismantle an institution that has saved no doubt thousands of lives for a few private interests that ultimately rely on government sources for their forecasts anyway?

Accuweather's forecasts are terrible.  They rely completely on computer models which do a horrible job accounting for local weather factors, and then the forecast is only updated once or maybe twice daily.

They can't compete and they're boohooing because of it.  That's because the weather service is a valuable American institution.  It was a clear case of Santorum putting his financial backers ahead of the well being of his constituents.
