Your Opinion of Marmite/Vegemite/etc

Both products are produced from yeast extract, a byproduct of the beer brewing process.  It has a smooth, caramel-like texture and the appearance of chocolate caramel... but tastes like anything but that.

It has a very salty, intensely savory (umami) flavor.  It kind of makes your mouth pucker the way a very sharp cheddar cheese does.

I had tried it years ago and didn't particularly like it... but some Atlas people got together and tried vegemite with butter on a toasted bagel and I had Marmite at home... and I think it's fantastic.
