If these promotions are so "mission-critical", Biden needs to make the compromise now and drop the policy of funding travel for abortion.  If it's THAT important, then, by all means, give up a fringe policy for the "mission-critical" promotions.

I never thought you would stoop-so-low, as to promote such a pro-hostage position.
Yuk. (What the Hell is wrong with you?)

This happens all the time; people bottling up stuff that's (A) not really all that important for the common weal, but (B) REALLY important to someone who owes a political debt or wants to reward a favored crony.  None of these promotions are essential to the defense of the country, but all of them represent granting favor by someone to someone else.  With each promotion, one becomes somewhat beholden to another, and another is discharged of a "debt" of a sort.  (Yes, there's politics galore in military promotions.)

Of course, if this IS a matter of national crisis, than Joe Biden could end the crisis by rescinding the policy of paying the expenses of military members to go to other states to receive abortions.  Such reimbursement for airfare is neither a right nor an entitlement.  If this is THAT important, Joe can take the loss for the greater good.

This is a tempest in a teapot.  It's pure politics.  Democrats do this on issues where they can as well as Republicans; it's called "Leverage".  You may not like it, but this is how Congress works.  And such maneuvers have kept more than one bad idea from becoming law over the decades.

You forfeit the right to ever claim you care about the troops or veterans.
