Alright, I feel that I should make a response.

First of all, the evidence presented by the Twitter thread is rather fraudulent and poor as:

A. The area visited was not ancestrally Democratic, but ancestrally Republican

B. This wasnt really a scientific study

C. The writer in question was clearly biased

I dont get why we are even looking at stuff like this. We just had an election, we have proof, and, TBH, it kinda goes both ways.

Some Rurals did trend R, most notably in OH, IN, and ND. But some rurals did trend D, even after accounting for the wave. The Rurals of Western MT, of IA, and of ME went the other way.

I should also note that there was a large correlation between the type of WC area, and how it trended. In general, as there was some exceptions, WC rurals trended R, with the exceptions being in ME, PA, and in NY. WC areas that had a suburb, or declining city, think Duluth, Erie, or Kenshoa, these areas trended D.

It should also be noted that WWC /=/ Rural area. The two are not synonymous. Losing NE-03 isnt a loss of WWC voters.

What Im trying to get at is that blanket statements like the ones made dont reflect the nuances of politics, that WOW wont vote like the Boston suburbs, or that MT wont vote the same way as IA.

An extremely online unemployed writer with multiple grad degrees has a take on whites in the rural United States.

In Iowa there are two words for that: Who cares?

Whoever was responsible for sending this person to Oskaloosa as a political organizer should be fired, escorted from the premises, and forbidden from working on any Democratic campaign.

Said the privileged white guy from his New York City apartment.

P.S. The fact that Bernie bros are having a seizure over these comments is the most convincing argument that she is telling the truth.

Did you start this thread just to make fun of Bernie Supporters?

Says the guy who until ten minutes ago thought Mahaska County was a Marvel character.

That random person has talked to thousands of rural whites.
But I guess a random guy from India (or Seattle) has a much better insight on how these people are thinking.

Who is we dude? You are from effing Netherlands.

Really owning all those Sanderistas I see Roll Eyes

I mean, its pretty clear by now that the tweets, along with the source, arent credible in any way, shape, or form. We have voter data now from the election, and it doesnt tell the blanket story about how the rurals went 90-10 R.

We need to be able to compete in some of these smaller places to get anything done. I'm not talking about doing well in them again, but I am saying that we need to turn this senate map

into something like this one-

https://www.270towin.com/maps/ApYe9 (which if you split to EVs from the split states, you have a D presidential victory) but still a small, but comfortable R majority

to

something like this one-
https://www.270towin.com/maps/OnrzE

And maybe half of those in the yellow states will be allied with the religious right, libertarians, or some other paleoconservative  lobby. But at least they will be dems and know, like Bob Casey who himself was conservative until fairly recently, that as long as you more or less agree with the Democrats on older more bread and butter issues, you will fall in line on judicial issues.

Dont know why you have WI as yellow in both cases, but MI as Blue, considering MI will be harder for Ds to hold. Also, PA will probably enter Blue status, looking at population growth, and what happened on election night.

Purple heart

Look, I'll be the first to admit I'm excessively hyperbolic about this topic (as well as others), but if you don't realize there's a lot of truth to the Racist Hick Hypothesis you're being willfully ignorant. Race issues are at this country's core and shape the political affiliation and voting patterns of tens of millions of Americans. Always have, always will.

I will agree with you on this, but I think its more nuanced than this, and that other factors, such as geography, candidate popularity, among others are just as strong.
