This is critical, the fact that Kavanaugh has these allegations.

1. This becomes an issue for the 2018 election, and voters, the ones who are undecided or not paying attention, now see the Republicans pushing a court pick who may have sexually assaulted another/

2. The Red state Dems, who were thought to have voted for the pick, are now given an exuse not to, that he has the allegations. This provides cover.

3. Collins and the other ""moderate"" Rs now have a predictament. If they vote for him, they are rather screwed, especially Collins, in Nov. But if they dont, they may be in trouble for the primary. Its now an extremely tough decision.

4. This could stall for a long time. Trump isnt retracting him, and the Dems could stall to get testimony, tests, charts, witnesses, and whatnot. This could, theoretically, put the confirmation date after the midterms, and possibly, leave a vacancy to a Blue Senate(if it really stalls for long enough).

Anyway, a rather saddening and boring confirmation just got super crucial.

He's toxic and tainted.  If it was up to the voters, they'd tank him faster than they did New Coke.  He's very lucky it's going to be a partisan job.  If Susan Collins votes yes, she will be defeated by the Glorious Jared Golden.
And if she votes no, she risks being primaried out by a Paul LePage clone...who will be defeated by the Glorious Jared Golden.

TBH, Collins is looking more and more that she has no way of winning in 2020, shes got no good options.

What do you guys think the odds are that the nomination is withdrawn/rescinded?

The odds are pretty low for one reason, Trump. He has doubled down on Kavanaugh, and I can see him sending an ultimatum(you dont put my guy up, you dont get a Supreme Court majority) to the senate Republicans. If he passes, its by a 51-49 vote.

Jesus, this thread is really coming up with convoluted reasons as to why she could be lying. I really doubt that such a story would be prepared for decades upon decades against a random, insignificant judge.

Two things can happen from this:

1. Kavanaugh is rescinding his nomination and a new nominee will be chosen

2. Kavanaugh is going to discuss with Trump, where Trump will push/force him not to give up the nomination

Im going with option 2

Maybe this will turn out to the be the "Duke Lacrosse" case of the #MeToo movement.

(That is, assuming that CBF's allegations will continue to fail under increased scrutiny).

? Nothing has been disproven in her testimony yet. Im pretty sure you just think that they dont hold up.

Under increased scrutiny, the inconsistences in her allegations,  the lack of evidence to support her allegations, and her possible motives in wanting to discredit Kavanaugh are all becoming more widely known.

Ok,let me get this straight, you think that, because her parents had a case with Brett's mother, that she would want to disqualify Brett for some reason? And she did this in advance, starting in 2012?

This is the only way I can describe that idea:
