Bob Smith is looking for a comeback. (See the Florida 2010 thread.)

He lives in Florida now (obviously) and could never be elected in New Hampshire any more.

On Meet the Press, Sen Kay Bailey Hutchinson(R-TX) said that Gregg would never accept unless he knew for sure he would be replaced by a Republican.

Of course the other Republican Senators will say that. And it may well be true. But, more likely, it's just an attempt to put pressure on Gregg to actually include that stipulation. Unless Gregg says it, it's all politics.

I'm more interested in Gregg, for now. I mean, who'd trust this guy over (or with) anything? I wonder how the woman lined up to replace him is feeling right now.

It is possible that he alerted her well beforehand. She was his campaign manager in the past. But really this just reflects very poorly on Gregg. He actively campaigned for the position, met with Obama and agreed to what Obama had to say, and then pulled out.

There must be something else going on. Gregg has some skeleton in his closet. There's no other way this could have happened.
