my hometown of Memphis: Shelby County, TN

2000:
Gore 56.42%
Bush 42.09%

2004:
Kerry 57.50%
Bush 41.91%

Interestingly enough, my county was the only county in Tennessee that Kerry did better than Gore.
There's an obvious explanation though: white flight to either neighboring counties Desoto, MS or Fayette, TN. Also, as of (I believe) 2004, Shelby County is now majority black.

My college Auburn University: Lee County, AL

2000:
Bush 58.63%
Gore 39.08%

2004:
Bush 62.70%
Kerry 36.38%

Auburn is an overall conservative college, and Lee Co. is about as Republican as the state
