I feel like this could very easily become like  the UN and that certain Governors *coughDukecough* can overrule perfectly legitamite things far too easily.
If there region felt so then it would be in their best interest.  What's with the 180 from being a moderate region right's guy to a liberal federal government guy?

Anyway, I support this idea wholeheartedly in a step to really show the power the regions should hold

In that case, would you be opposed to the abolition of regional seats?
Obviously

You are denying the regions their right to representation.

Question: Were this amendment to pass, it would pretty much do away with all the arguments ever forwarded in favor of regional senate seats, right?
Not at all, if I'm correct this body would only have veto power, not the power to pass laws.  Regional senate seats are incredibly important still

EDIT: I was wrong, but it makes me like the idea even more.  Regional senate seats are still important and crucial.

Holy Jesus, are you guys kidding me?  PiT change your damn vote to "nay" this eliminates regional senate seats.  I am now a guaranteed vote against the bill if the amendment passes and I will work vigarously to make sure that it fails in a region besides the Dirty South as well.

Count me as a strong vote against this bill unless this passes:

I motion to remove the last amendment

I strongly support DWTL's motion, if any such thing needed to be said.

So how many times do you suggest we vote on the same amendment?
I'm hoping for the absentions to vote nay this time.  HW has always prided himself on being "pro-regional rights"

Guess you threw that "pro-regions" thing out the window once being elected?

I have a slew of new amendments to introduce to this bill after this fails starting with this:

To change the name of the bill to "Bye, Bye Regional Senate Seats Amendment"

And now you see why I asked for a second vote Smiley

Because you knew Andrew would change his vote for some as yet unstated reason?
No, actually I was counting on Happy swing to a "Aye" vote, but it worked out the same

I'd say there is no way this bill passes at this point, a slim chance if it reaches the next senate by otherwise no way.

Wait, I thought you amended it to get rid of the part that abolished regional senate seats?
Yeah, so it would have a hard time passing this senate.  The issue is really at the heart here, and this senate does not have 6 votes to pass it, and it would be hard in the next senate.

The Lewis/Jas amendment maintains the balance and is a reasonable compromise which can pass.

I supported a compromise that would have kept a reasonable balance between regional and federal power. You guys defeated that, and this bill increases regional power for no reason.
When something is virtually powerless, its a good idea to give them power.  The reason the regions aren't as active as some would like, is that nothing really rides on a regional.  This bill will certainly make gubenatorial elections more competitive

Right, but at the moment, in the legislature (which is just the Senate), there's an even split between regional interests and national interests (5 seats to 5 seats). Adding the Council of Governor's will make that split at least 1:2 in power of the regions and arguably 1:3.
Why is a heavier split toward more localization a bad thing?  This will more than likely increase interest in governor's seats and possibly even Lt. Gov. seats (the Mideast can't keep there's Tongue).  I'm not asking you to necessarily support it, but I am asking that like Sen. BaconKing and HappyWarrior you let it go to the people.
