Old mayor was trash, it was obvious she was going.  Probably is, Repubs could only convince Fmr. Dem to take the job.  He hasn't worked miracles yet and the Republicans are completely split into two camps over the issue of new large-scale housing projects in town.  The real Republicans and the faux Republicans that followed the mayor from the Democratic party.

Overall, I'd say better than before but neutral

Tacoma has a notorious problem with institutional corruption.  The council isn't so awful.  The school board is, mostly.
I forgot about the school board, they suck nuts as they personally screwed me

Yeah, ours was also pretty awful. They got funding increase after funding increase, and none of it was spent on anything other than cosmetic improvements and a $1 million dollar bridge between buildings as part of an idiotic 'open campus' proposal (without handicap access or a roof!). These people couldn't manage a budget if their lives depended on it. Thankfully, my town finally voted to deny them any more money to waste a year ago.
That's not really my school board's problem, their's is that they cannot think, they can only read what is on a piece of paper and regurgitate it

Most likely the mayor is elected, just not by the people.  I know a lot of town's in NJ elect a council and then the council elects a mayor, similar to the parlimentary system
