To be perfectly honest I don't think Porce was the first one to figure it out, at least that I know of. I have a conversation with the person who did most of the digging on this whole situation from the night the first email was sent that basically confirmed that this seemed to have the makings of a hoax.

two things baffle me about this situation.

1.  yates was a well respected poster.  no offense, but i dont think any of us would have been shocked if dwtl had pulled a stunt like this.  but when someone like yates does it, it is shocking.

That really shouldn't be all that baffling, as you just answered your own question.  Yates was well-respected, whereas somebody like DWDL is not.  In any kind of situation, you're going to be more shocked when somebody you respect does something appalling than when somebody you don't respect does it.

Correct. A great reputation is essential to any crook.
