Spitzer realizes that he must appoint someone reasonable as to not anger upstate NY so Reps like Rangel and Nadler are out.  I think he chooses someone from a moderate Dem district who still rather liberal like Steve Israel

I think he's already slated by the Dems to run for mayor in 2009 and I don't see a reasonable Republican challenge
