With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics starting in a few days, that'll be the 11th Olympics total in my lifetime (6 Summer & 5 Winter). I was born in '99.

Summer: Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020

Winter: Salt Lake City 2002, Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014, Pyeongchang 2018

The earliest Summer Olympics that I have memories of is Beijing 2008. I was only a year old during Sydney 2000 and for some reason I don't have any memories of Athens 2004. I was 5 and could definitely still have memories of it but I don't remember watching it. The Beijing 2008 Olympics were spectacular, that Opening Ceremony was the best ever in my opinion. Beijing 2008 also was the breakout Olympics for Michael Phelps & Usain Bolt - they dominated. Also, the 2008 USA men's basketball "Redeem Team" was fun to watch.

The earliest Winter Olympics that I have memories of is Vancouver 2010. I didn't get into watching winter sports until later in my childhood. I was a little too young to remember Salt Lake City 2002 and I didn't watch Turin 2006. The Vancouver 2010 Olympics were the Olympics where Shaun White, Shani Davis and Lindsey Vonn shined - they were amazing. It sucked to watch the ice hockey gold medal game between the USA & Canada, Sidney Crosby scored the OT gold medal-winning goal to beat the USA.

The first contemporary Summer Olympics I remember happened when I was 9.  The US didn't win any medals.

I do remember a bit from the Summer Olympics from when I was 13, especially Mary Lou.
Which Olympics were those?

Summer: 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2021

Winter: 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018

I was born 3 months too late for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.
I was born 3 days after the end of the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. Also, I was born exactly 3 weeks after the end of the 1999 NBA Finals.

However, I was born on the exact same day as the 1999 MLB All-Star Game - so that's cool.

So you were born around 1973-1974?

Summer: 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2021

Winter: 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018

So you weren't born in 1997 lol?

Tons, but the first one I remember is Mexico City 1968.

How did you feel about the US Boycott of the 1980 games

Mixed feelings.  I felt sorry for the athletes who worked so hard for their spots in the Olympics and then missed out, but I don't have a problem with the general principle of a nation boycotting, and in particular I felt that this specific boycott was justified.
So what do you think about the calls to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing? Should the USA skip the games or not?

Yes.
Why?
