Public schools in America on the way out?

no, but increasingly the ruling class is being drawn from the ranks of the privately educated from almost birth.  this trend will continue.

This one. I went to public school until arriving at a private university and was shocked to see the extent to which many private schooled kids were kept within a fortified bubble. To me the separation caused by private vs public education may be one of the most damaging aspects of American society (it re-enforces class distinctions).
