This was my first thought five months ago when Edwards
announced he would not stand for re-election.  Actually,
about a month later when Bob Graham decided to end his
campaign for Democratic nominee it seemed that's what he
was about.  Then in November when Graham announced,
like Edwards, that he would not seek re-election, maybe
those were the easiest pickups for a Democratic vicory.
Starting with Bush 263 - ?/ecwards 275
or Bush 251 - ?/graham 287.
The NC market is probably less expensive and Edwards
really is sexier than Graham.

Either case will lose to Bush.  Suckers walk; money talks.

Just like  to add that I think the Dems know this.
Placing bids for geopolitic advantage is not only
nasty, but tricky and expensive as well.  If I'm
managing the Kerry/whomever campaign, I say the
best shot is going door to door in less expensive
terrain like WV and NH.   Even that supports the
idea of nominating a woodsy fellow.  A Chaucer's
Everyman, like Bill Clinton's hillbilly intellectual quality,
plays best at both the top and bottom of the ticket.
Too bad the wavefunction collapsed a little differently
in this version of the universe.
