Looks like circa 360/200 will be right?

I stand corrected.  CNN just did a five nanosecond bit on blair being the First Labour Leader Ever to Win A Third Consecutive Term as PM.  or something like that.  it flew by really quickly.  the boy's asleep.  Finally! and I'm just surfing.  I now return you...

By what standard is a recount generally ordered in the United Kingdom?

Labour is looking good right now.

I think there's a net loss.  maybe that's not surprising.  but there's talk of losses of seats to two parties.  I suppose it's all in the spin.  or it's in whether you bet the over/under or took odds.

now they seem to be switching back from analysis to results.

I also like that the BBC uses the normal color scheme, like dave uses, instead of the nouveau Fox News-inspired opposite scheme that's all the rage in the usa (e.g., "red state") just now.

I guess george will be calling tony by now to say howdy partner and congrats.

"The result in Bethnal Green and Bow, scene of a bitter battle between anti-war Respect leader George Galloway and Labour's Oona King, who voted for the Iraq war, is due at 0200."

what the hell does that mean in american?  2 am? in greenwich?

wow, I never noticed how crooked and yellow his teeth were till now.  don't think he'd get elected to dog-catcher in the USA.

well, congrats all Blair supporters.  good show.

oooh, the sedgefield guy is talking that WMD language.  Clear message about the war, this schtick.  I didn't realize that was still hot.  Man, he's going about Iraq for quite a while.  Nice.  Tony needs to take a cue from Bush, get a sense of humor, and look under a chair and wink, "well, they're not under there."

as I said before, an honest fool.

maybe you folks have some pictures of Bush bending over in front of Abdullah, since I'm getting pretty desensitized to those ridiculous photos of bush and abdullah making nice.  I guess they're getting a little old by now.

whoa, I just saw that.  Gypsy hatred???

Law has just said he's going to usually vote with the Labour whip even if he doesn't take it.

like that Ohio congressman with the beatup cowboy hat.  "Well, I'll vote for Denny Hastert if there's a tie, since you're all bastards."  What a joker.  I think he's in jail now.

good god, just before it cut away, they were doing this cheesey chessboard Visual toy, but with all pawns, in red, blue, and amber.  With three big pie-chart areas showing gains and losses.  My Red Labour Pawn challenges your Blue Plutocatic Bastard.  En Garde!  With weird trapezoidal images of that devilish-looking Blair.  Very FOX.  Very silly.  I guess the whole "...for dummies" concept has caught on across the atlantic ocean, er, well, Murdoch's australian, so I should say across the Indian Ocean, whatever.

Actually, I rather liked it.  But then I also like "Hardball" and "hannity & Colmes"

jj, that'd be the spin I'd be selling in the US.  But it was playing more as Tory gains small on BBC when I was watching.  It'll be interesting to watch the world roundup shows over the next few days to see how these results are spun in various parts.   Watch the NYT, since US talking heads will take their cues from tomorrow morning's edition.

of course it's spin.  I can say "Tory gain seats in 72 point, and LD gain also below in 36"  or I can have a layout with a Blair with his smiling face and say "Bush's Closest European Ally Victor" in 108 point.  Or I can say I can say "Labour [sic] Squeezed from Left and Right"  and that's not even counting what the other Blair, Jayson, might write.  Dude, there are about as many ways to spin this as you have fingers and toes put together.

that's funny nick, I mean interesting psychology.  I keep trying to metaphorize like that as well.  seems natural to look for past or present scenarios in the United States.  Yes, I think this is a phenomenon that generally advises spin.  Not just here, but in all countries.  With a few exceptions (Tsunami, genocide) the same story can bring on remarkably different feelings and associations around the world.  Do any of you read Jefferson Morley's piece in the WaPo?  He focuses on this phenomenon quite a bit.

I also think the bottom line is:  Blair looks good.

oh, sh**t, this guy's not even waiting for tomorrow's papers.  Matthews just came on and he's babbling something along the lines of:  Seems like bush's buddy is in trouble over there.  wind me up baby, and watch me go.

I should dig up the lyrics to that old song, "Dirty Laundry" but I suppose I should spare Al the messiness on his thread.

oh, that jackass Joe Trippi is on there agreeing with him.  Just looking at him fills me with the urge to defacate.  "...they're thinking about immigration right now, and jobs, not Iraq..."  WTF?  who cares?  we have the rest of our lives to analyze.  anyway, the spin tomorrow will be interesting indeed.  I want to read the NYT and the WSJ first, before I look at anything else, to get intelligent and diametrically opposed ideological spins.  Then I'll go to the web.
