Why not add to the perceived arrogance of Americans? Go ahead. Don't you realize that neither Democrats nor Republicans had anything to do with starting WWII. The pacific theater began about a year before Roosevelt was even elected for his first term, and the European theater began more than two years before our country got involved. Sometimes it is said North Americans have a shallow view, or an inaccurate view of world history. Most of the time, the posters on this forum show contradictory evidence. Unfortunately, often enough, sometimes the posts herein support that conclusion. Please, give your collective ethnocentries a little rest.
I suppose that you're refering to the Japanse-Chinese war?
It depends on how counter-factual one wants to be...the Versailles Treaty with its harshness towards Germany obviously is part of the reason, and the WWI entente, in particular France, is to blame for this. One can also blame the Western Democracies for not standing up to Hitler...that would be the US a little more perhaps, considering your isolationist polciies. Then there is of course the German people and especially the NSDAP who has some smaller part of the blame as well...
Yeah, in the Western theater, I think Versailles and France bear that responsibility. I think the nsdap was just a natural nationalistic response to that harshness. And, yes, chamberlain and his friends in washington, in both parties, were hoping to avoid conflict. Hindsight is 20/20. Don't you agree?
