Washington, D.C. literally has a higher homicide rate than Honduras (often considered one of the most dangerous countries in the world). This is simply unacceptable. While we should always applaud declining crime rates, we should be misled into thinking that this makes crime not a serious issue.

No one is saying that crime isn't an issue, it always is. Just that American cities being portrayed like it's 'Escape from New York'  isn't an accurate reflection of the large-scale reality.
