Also known as the Supreme Court bait bill.

A group's last middle finger as they're being lowered into their graves....

That just about sums up the Trump era.

I really don't understand why a bunch of old white conservative men think they're in any position to interfere with a personal medical procedure between a woman and her doctor...

Because they're men. And I say this as a man, myself.

Quote
A GOP state lawmaker who recently gave an impassioned speech about being raped as a 16 year old says she feels attacked after a Republican colleague passed out literature describing rape as a “misdeed of the parent” that doesn’t justify having an abortion.

The Spartanburg Republican who passed out the card this week, state Rep. Josiah Magnuson, acknowledged the poor word choice in an interview with The State Friday but said he wouldn’t back down from his position.

North Carolina state Republicans are their state's equivalent to "Florida Man."

You beat me to it!

Anyway, I give Roe v. Wade at least one year. It's on its last legs and will be overturned if this bill's legality gets appealed to the Supreme Court. Stop expecting rationality out of Kavanaugh and Roberts. They are hacks! Roberts is like the Susan Collins of the Supreme Court. It could be stopped in a lower court potentially though. That is really the best hope to keep Roe on life support just a little longer...at least until Georgia or Ohio's laws get appealed to it. The right will not stop until the decision is overturned and they get to deprive women of their autonomy.

It may backfire and galvanize women against them finally. And maybe voters will finally start taking the Supreme Court seriously when it comes to who they vote for, but it's still enough of a victory to be worth it for the right. Abortion rights probably will return within another decade when the Supreme Court's balance finally changes alongside public perceptions of the issue, but pro-lifers will die happily before then, knowing that they helped make America a more regressive place than it was in 1973.

If the GOP gets Roe overturned, suburban women will rip the GOP’s nuts off.

This would be nice, but don't get your hopes up too much.

Confederate-Loving Florida Lawmaker Uses White-Supremacist Talking Point to Justify Abortion Ban

Florida state Sen. Dennis Baxley went on WLRN to talk about abortion, since Georgia, Alabama, and other states recently passed nightmarish anti-abortion restrictions and Baxley himself had sponsored a similar anti-choice bill this year that died before becoming law.

“When you get a birth rate less than 2 percent, that society is disappearing,” Baxley said of Western Europe. “And it’s being replaced by folks that come behind them and immigrate, don’t wish to assimilate into that society and they do believe in having children. So you see that there are long range impacts to your society when the answer is to exterminate.”

The Republican party has simply become a fascist party.

Florida...

Anyway, I want to start referring to the "pro-life" as "pro-force" instead, it's much more accurate and avoids giving them the ability to hide behind the "life is sacred" smokescreen.

2 in 5 pregnancies ending in abortion in NYC isn't enough for them, apparently; now they need to subsidize abortion as an export.   absolutely revolting.

I think you're missing the point here. It's not about the number, it's about safe access and affordability if a woman is going to want one anyway.

If you are subsidizing something, it's because you don't think you have enough of it.  Let me know when they vote to give money to any pregnant women from anywhere who wants to give birth and I'll consider that they maybe don't just love abortions.

You're still missing the point. Access to a safe abortion in New York City may very well not be available enough. It's about access not about any sort of culling or whatever else you want to fear-monger about.

Again, I fail to see your point. New York is a huge place and some people still may not be able to afford an abortion that they feel they may need. Just because there are a lot of facilities doesn't mean that the service is still that widely available to those that need it or funded well enough. Also, a lot of those facilities probably don't just exclusively provide abortions.

The GOP doesn't believe in science at all. Period.

I guess that's the thought process:

"We don't actually understand how women's reproductive systems work, and we don't want to, so let's just make up how it works to suit our own agenda and sign it into law!"

This country is truly in peril.

Pennsylvania’s republicans continue to embarrass...

A Pennsylvania bill would require death certificates for fertilized eggs that never implant in the uterus

https://www.businessinsider.com/pennsylvania-bill-would-require-death-certificates-for-fertilized-eggs-2019-11

W.T.F?!? Shocked

Why are you even a Republican?

The. Law. Mandates. A. Medical. Procedure. Which. Does. Not. EXIST.

Opposing this bill doesn't equate to being a Democrat, but rather equates to simply not being an idiot.

Our country would be much better off if this was the prevailing wisdom.

Florida Legislature passes abortion parental consent bill
Girls under the age of 18 will have to get a parent's permission before having an abortion under a bill that Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to sign.

Common sense.

It's none of the parents' business. Your right to your own agency isn't something that is supposed to begin when you're 18.

Yes it is. That's why you can't vote or drink or smoke until you're 18. It's the law. The law rules. End of discussion.

Laws can be flawed though and access to a safe abortion is a far more important liberty and can have far more impact on someone's life than the ability to drink or smoke. That's a ridiculous comparison.

Also, 21 is the legal age to drink in this country.
